Training course was introduced to Hong Kong by Utility Training Institute, for standard coding of Conduit Condition Evaluation (CCE-CCTV & ME) by using man entry and non-man entry methods
2002

Establishment of Hong Kong Institute of Utility Specialists (HKIUS).
-
Ir. King Wong completed the study on “the Strategy Planning Changes for Companies Working on Leakage Detection Contracts Affecting Slopes” which confirmed the need of the institute.

Qualifying Conduit Condition Evaluation (CCE-CCTV & ME) training course was jointly organized with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
2003

An open forum “The Public Interest in Reducing Road Opening, Safer Excavation and Better Slope Maintenance by using GIS based Utility Information Centre”. chaired by Ir H.S. Kwong, GBS, JP, was jointly organized by UTI and HKIUS.

The forum was attended by over 500 including seniors from government departments, academics, consultants, contractors and supplies.

Manhole Internal Condition & Conduit Condition Evaluation (CCTV Survey) training course delivered to HKSAR Drainage Services Department in December.
2004

Manhole Internal Condition & Conduit Condition Evaluation (CCTV Survey) training course delivered to HKSAR Buildings Department in April.

UTI was approved by the Labour Department to conduct the Mandatory Basic and Safety Training(known as ‘Green Card’) and the Competent Persons and Certified Workers of Confined Spaces Training.
2005

Advanced Utility Survey training course was jointly organized with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

“Utility Protection & Work Safety in Road Excavation - Creative Writing & Practical Competition” was jointly organized by HKIUS, HKIE-SSC, HKAAST and UTI. The event comprises a series of seminars, forums and technical visits.
2006

Advanced Ground Penetrating Radar Survey and Utility Survey Results Accuracy Evaluation & Usefulness training course were introduced by UTI.
2007

“A Two-coast, Four-area Conference on Utility Safety & Management” was organized by HKIUS, HKIE-SSC, HKARMS & IOSH(HK) and UTI provides the event management service which includes site visits, series of seminars and a competition.

“Utility Profession & Applications” Applied Learning Course (2007-09 cohort of piloting) was jointly organized by UTI & The Department of Civil Engineering of The University of Hong Kong. The course was coordinated by The Education Bureau of Hong Kong Government.
2008

Two workshops on “One-day Training on Pipe Defect Coding & Pipe Condition Assessment” were organized in July for the Staff of Drainage Services Department of Hong Kong Government.

UTI coordinates the celebration of HKIUS 5th Anniversary and HKURC Inauguration on 14 April.

UTI provides event management services to “BUDA Group 10th Anniversary Dinner” which was held in Kowloon Shangri-la hotel.
2009

Six workshops on “Training of Classification of Pipe Conditions and Assessment of Pipe Performance for Drains” were conducted to staff of Highways Department of Hong Kong Government.

Three graduates with excellent performance of “Utility Profession & Applications” Applied Learning Course (2007-09 cohort of piloting) were recommended to work as apprentices in utility companies.

UTI provides event management services to “1st International Conference on Utility Management & Safety” which includes soccer match, technical visits and conference.

Hong Kong Conduit Condition Evaluation Codes 2009 (4th Edition) was published with limited 1000 quantities.

Utility Safety & Management 2009- Drawing, Slogan Creation and Photography competitions were organized.

UTI adopted the new ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System in order to keep pace with the market developments.
2010

The first Professional Diploma in Utility Survey and Management has been launched by UTI.
2011

The Second International Conference on Utility Management and Safety (ICUMAS 2011) has been organized, with over 70 supporting organizations from government departments, academic institutions, professional associations from local, mainland china and overseas.

A series of 12 technical seminars have been held to over 380 tertiary education students from Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (HKIVE) and Hong Kong College of Technology (HKCE). Those seminars have includes disciplines in water leakage detection, ground penetrating radar and flow study in drainage conduits and pipes etc.
2012

UTI has organized a one-day international environmental conference "Sustainable Development: A Better Quality of Life 2012" for over 600 participants with full supported by 24 department of schools and associations.
2013

The 10th Anniversary Dinner of Hong Kong Institute of Utility Specialists (HKIUS) cum Graduation Ceremony Diploma on Utility Survey 2013 has successfully held. We were honored to have more than 200 industry professionals to attend.
2014

The Drainage Services Department (DSD) Open Day has been held at Shatin Sewage Treatment Works successfully, reaching more than 11, 000 person-time of entry. Multiple education programs focusing on underground utility management have been prepared, including model exhibitions, thematic tours, game booth and display panels.
2015

Award Presentation Ceremony of Utility Safety Competition 2014/15 (Practical Competition) has been successfully held. CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, Drainage Services Department & Kingsfield Engineering Limited, and Chun Wo Development Holding Limited have won prizes in the competition respectively.

Ir Dr. King Wong, the president of HKIUS has delivered an inspiring talk in "IMechE YMS - Seminar on Utility Engineering" to members from IMechE HKB Young Member Section (YMS) at PolyU.
2016

Together with many international professionals in utility surveying in Malaysia, HKIUS and IIUS were invited to present a speech particularly in the experiences and challenges in utility planning and mapping during the "Survey Congress 2016" held by Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (Sarawak Branch).
2019

UTI has organized over 200 events and courses, with around 10,000 attendance, worked with almost 100 different professional organizations, government department, trade associations, etc.
