Training course was introduced to Hong Kong by Utility Training Institute, for standard coding of Conduit Condition Evaluation (CCE-CCTV & ME) by using man entry and non-man entry methods
2002

Establishment of Hong Kong Institute of Utility Specialists (HKIUS).

Ir. King Wong completed the study on “the Strategy Planning Changes for Companies Working on Leakage Detection Contracts Affecting Slopes” which confirmed the need of the institute.

Qualifying Conduit Condition Evaluation (CCE-CCTV & ME) training course was jointly organized with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
2003

An open forum “The Public Interest in Reducing Road Opening, Safer Excavation and Better Slope Maintenance by using GIS based Utility Information Centre”. chaired by Ir H.S. Kwong, GBS, JP, was jointly organized by UTI and HKIUS.

The forum was attended by over 500 including seniors from government departments, academics, consultants, contractors and supplies.

Manhole Internal Condition & Conduit Condition Evaluation (CCTV Survey) training course delivered to HKSAR Drainage Services Department in December.

Manhole Internal Condition & Conduit Condition Evaluation (CCTV Survey) training course delivered to HKSAR Buildings Department in April.

UTI was approved by the Labour Department to conduct the Mandatory Basic and Safety Training(known as ‘Green Card’) and the Competent Persons and Certified Workers of Confined Spaces Training.
2005

Advanced Utility Survey training course was jointly organized with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

“Utility Protection & Work Safety in Road Excavation - Creative Writing & Practical Competition” was jointly organized by HKIUS, HKIE-SSC, HKAAST and UTI. The event comprises a series of seminars, forums and technical visits.

Advanced Ground Penetrating Radar Survey and Utility Survey Results Accuracy Evalution & Usefulness training course were introduced by UTI.
2007

“A Two-coast, Four-area Conference on Utility Safety & Management” was organized by HKIUS, HKIE-SSC, HKARMS & IOSH(HK) and UTI provides the event management service which includes site visits, series of seminars and a competition.

“Utility Profession & Applications” Applied Learning Course (2007-09 cohort of piloting) was jointly organized by UTI & The Department of Civil Engineering of The University of Hong Kong. The course was coordinated by The Education Bureau of Hong Kong Government.
2008

Two workshops on “One-day Training on Pipe Defect Coding & Pipe Condition Assessment” were organized in July for the Staff of Drainage Services Department of Hong Kong Government.

UTI coordinates the celebration of HKIUS 5th Anniversary and HKURC Inauguration on 14 April.

UTI provides event management services to “BUDA Group 10th Anniversary Dinner” which was held in Kowloon Shangri-la hotel.
2009

Six workshops on “Training of Classification of Pipe Conditions and Assessment of Pipe Performance for Drains” were conducted to staff of Highways Department of Hong Kong Government.

Three graduates with excellent performance of “Utility Profession & Applications” Applied Learning Course (2007-09 cohort of piloting) were recommended to work as apprentices in utility companies.

UTI provides event management services to “1st International Conference on Utility Management & Safety” which includes soccer match, technical visits and conference.

Hong Kong Conduit Condition Evaluation Codes 2009 (4th Edition) was published with limited 1000 quantities.

Utility Safety & Management 2009- Drawing, Slogan Creation and Photography competitions were organized.

UTI adopted the new ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System in order to keep pace with the market developments.
