In Hong Kong, the underground utility system is complicated yet very important to wellbeing of citizens due to the density of the city. And the system has been getting increasingly important given the fact that lots of government infrastructure projects are underway. Therefore, a body to promote advancement in technology and enhance professionalism of this specialized industry is essential in Hong Kong.
HKIUS was registered in 2002 and enacted on 1st April 2003 as a non-profit making organization with an aim to promote and advance the knowledge and practice of underground utility services, and the creation and maintenance of a high standard of professional qualification in the utility industry.
